NASTY (Written by: Mohammed Salem)
A song about letting yourself go and enjoying the rhythm of the music. In a troubled society, Salem explores the joy of song and letting the music take over … and leaving your troubles behind; atleast for the moment. This song was written and released almost a year ago, where it peaked at #3 on the International Internet Pop Charts and Pop General Charts. The song carries a tribal influence, that brings in the heart of Africa in its music. In it, Salem expresses the importance of pouring your emotions into the dance.
SAY YOU'LL MAKE LOVE WITH ME AGAIN (Written by: Lisa Butler and Chris Headford)
In true ballad style, this song is about regret. Although Salem believes in not living your life with hate and regret, he enters a journey of discovering that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone. It's not the first time Mohammed has worked with this Australian songwriting duo. Butler and Headford have also written the song Mohammed used as his pitch for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games theme song Leap of faith. The song charted well and demonstrates Mohammed's ability as a vocalist as well as a performer.
CAN YOU HANDLE THIS (Written by: Eric Benet and Mohammed Salem)
If the rhythm of this tune sounds familiar, it's because the King of blending in RnB and Jazz; Eric Benet had something to do with it. The song is an absolute hit and despite the controversy upon its release, became a huge hit. The lyrics hit homophobia from a different perspective. Rather than demanding heterosexuals to accept homosexuals for who they; it's a song demanding homosexuals to accept themselves for who they are. It's definitely a touchy subject, but one that Salem tackles well. Although a very popular funk song, and despite its highly publicised controversy … it isn't the highlight of the album.
HAVE YOU EVER (Written by: Dianne Warren)
The song made popular by Brandy Norwood, this is one of the re-recorded hits on the album that truly demonstrate Mohammed Salem's ability as a vocalist. A song about being in love with someone, who doesn't feel the same way, nor does this person feel aware of your existence. A song that outlines feelings that almost all individuals have experienced at one point or another in their lives. The live version of this song appears in Salem's forthcoming mojo live! CD which will be available over summer.
